An earache can be very troubling especially for a child. Children are more likely to get earaches compared to adults. They occur when the Eustachian tubes are plugged as a result of several reasons including being exposed to constant loud noise, a common cold, pressure changes like in an aircraft, extreme pressure from a fall or being hit, ear infection, insect in the ear, excess wax or problems related to the ear-nose-throat.
An earache will usually occur unexpectedly, therefore you may not have the time to seek medical intervention. Luckily, there are several home remedies that you can use. Here are some of the remedies that you can use.
Sesame oil and garlic
This is among the most useful remedies if you have an earache. Take 1 teaspoon of the sesame oil and put in half a clove of garlic. Heat the mixture using a flame until it gets warm. Lie down on a bed and put it about 4 drops of the mixture in your exposed ear. Leave it for about ten minutes before turning over and doing the same to the other ear.
Licorice and ghee
Put some licorice in ghee and make a creamy mixture. Use the mixture around the ear’s external. You will get some relief after some few minute.
Castor plant leaves and sesame oil
Warm the sesame oil and add some castor plant leaves to it. Apply some of the mixture around your ear.
Guggulu herb
If you have earache and some discharge of pus in your ears, this is a good remedy. Burn a piece of the herb and make sure you put it out before it all burns. The herb will begin smoking. Allow the smoke to get in to the ear with a problem. The pain will reduce and the pus will stop oozing.
Bishop’s weed oil and sesame oil
Take some of the Bishop’s weed oil and mix it with about three times of that amount of sesame. Warm the mixture on a flame and put it in your ears. Put about four drops of the mixture in each ear.
Linseed oil and garlic
Take the linseed oil and add 4 to 5 cloves of garlic. Burn the mixture and then filter it and store in a bottle. Use the oil on your ears each morning and evening. You will get relief from your earache in some few days.
Holy basil leaves
Grind some of the leaves until they form a paste and then use a flame to warm it. Cool it for some few minutes and then put about 4 to 5 drops in your ears. This will definitely work to give you relief.
Cotton wool
If your earache is being caused by extreme cold weather, you can put some cotton in your ears.
Mango fruit leaves
Get juice from the leaves and warm it and put about four drops in both ears to get relief for the earache.
Radish and mustard oil
Chop some radish and add it to some mustard oil and then warm the mixture. Store it in a bottle and use some drops of it every time you feel pain. It will provide quick relief for earaches.
Banana tree bark juice
Extract some juice from a banana tree bark and warm it. It works well if you put it in your ears every night before going to bed. Three or four drops will work well. The pain will be gone by the time you wake up in the morning.
Ginger
Extract juice from a piece of ginger and put some few drops in your ears for quick relief.
Mustard oil
Put a few drops of the oil in your ears to get rid of the earache.
Onion
Get the juice from the onion and warm it. Use a few drops to get rid of the earache. It works better if you use it just before going to bed.
Garlic
Take a few cloves of garlic and extract some juice and warm it. Put some drops of the juice in the ear that is painful. Garlic is a powerful antibiotic and it works very well to provide relief from earaches.
Bael root and neem oil
Put a piece of bael root in some neem oil and then light up the root. Some oil will start dripping on the burning end of the root. The oil will come in very handy because it has the bael’s astringent properties and neem’s antiseptic properties. Put about four drops of this oil in each year whenever you get an earache.
Some tips
If you get earaches when you fly, you can deal with this by carrying some candy or chewing gum. Chew the gum when you feel the pain starting. Yawning several times can also help ease the pain.
